Sector 13 co-op not working? How to fix "can't join friend's room"
The room-join issue is a known post-launch problem the studio is investigating. Official temporary workaround: host and every joiner set the SAME Steam download region, fully restart Steam, then the host creates a new room. Still failing? The symptoms, per the studio's own post
Game Inside Studio pinned a thread on the Steam forums (September 26, 2026) listing what players report:
- Cannot join a friend's room at all
- Steam friend invites do nothing
- Entering the room code shows "invalid code" or the join simply fails
- Multiplayer worked in the demo but does not work in the full game
The studio says it is investigating, and the V1.0.1 patch notes (September 28) list "multiplayer connectivity issues affecting some players in Mainland China" as a known issue. Reports also come from players outside China.
The official temporary workaround: same download region
Posted by the game's developer on the Steam forums. It may only help some players, but it is the only workaround the studio has offered so far:
- Open Steam → Settings → Downloads.
- Find Download Region.
- The host and every friend who wants to join must set the exact same region.
- Fully quit Steam and start it again (everyone, not just the host).
- Start Sector 13, have the host create a new room, then join via Steam friend invite or the room code.
The studio stresses this is not a confirmed fix — it may work for some groups, not all. If it works for yours, they asked to be told which download region you and your friends used.
If it still fails: report these details
The developer's post asks players to include exactly this information:
- Your country/region (province, if in mainland China)
- Your internet provider (China Telecom / Unicom / Mobile, etc.)
- Your Steam download region setting
- Whether the failure is "friend invite does nothing" or "room code invalid" — the developers treat these as different error paths

What is confirmed about the cause
